It costs 3000 Resources and three Butanium to build this automated warrior unit. Marine experiments with automated battle units haven't been a smashing success. Unable to develop a suitable artificial intelligence system, the next best thing was to slap a Techie's brain into an armed robot. In other words, any Techie may build a Bio-Droid - but the process of building a Bio-Droid kills the Techie. Kind of a catch-22, huh? Bio-Droids can walk, fly, and use a shotgun attack against the enemy.
